BEIJING, Oct 14 (APP): Professor Cheng Xizhong, a Senior Research Fellow at the Charhar Institute, emphasized the significance of Pakistan hosting the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference. He noted that this event enhances Pakistan’s standing both regionally and internationally.
In a statement, Professor Cheng highlighted the recognition Pakistan has received from SCO member states, pointing out that nine heads of government attended the conference, which showcases the country’s pivotal role within the organization.
Addressing concerns about Pakistan’s security, he remarked that the successful organization of the event in Islamabad demonstrates the capability of Pakistan’s security forces, further enhancing Islamabad’s reputation as a secure city.
He noted that Pakistan, as a growing emerging economy, continues to showcase its importance in regional and global affairs through platforms like the SCO.
Professor Cheng stressed the importance of the ‘Shanghai Spirit,’ which includes mutual trust, equality, and respect for diversity. He urged that bilateral issues should not interfere with the collective cooperation within the SCO.
On the topic of China-Pakistan relations, he highlighted the close ties between the two nations, praising their cooperation in political, economic, and military fields.
He also commended the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a transformative initiative for Pakistan’s development, pointing out its contributions to infrastructure and energy projects, which have significantly boosted the nation’s economy.
In conclusion, Professor Cheng advocated for stronger defense and counter-terrorism cooperation between China and Pakistan, recognizing their shared commitment to regional peace and stability.
He expressed confidence that the strategic partnership between China and Pakistan will continue to play a vital role in fostering economic prosperity and ensuring peace in the region.
